My occupations

By Carlos A. Castillo Lara

I have a degree in philosophy from the Universidad del Valle and other degree in pictorial techniques from IPC (Instituto Popular de Cultura).

So, I’m a social science teacher since 5th grade to 11th grade and artistic education since 6th to 9th grade.

I work in El Carmelo school. I started to work in this school on 2016’s february. From then on my routine is this:  I wake up at 4:15 and I sit on the bed’sedge to open my eyes wide. After I get up at 4: 20 a.m.  and I exercise.

I take a shower at 4:40 a.m. , after that, I get dressed (the last weekend I ironed my shirts and my pants). Sometimes I take my breakfast at 5:15 a.m. or 5:20 a.m. (sometime I eat arepa, other times bread), after I brush my teeth, but sometimes I eat breakfast and brush my teeth in my job place.

I go to work at 5:45 a.m. I pick up a co-worker on my motorcycle. I start to work at 6:25 a.m. (our work day is from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. sometime we finish at 4:00 p.m.).

Always there is a pray before the class at 6:45 a.m. We begin the class at 7:00 a.m. First, I always greet the class, so I give the instructions to my students, sometimes I ask them about the last class or the homework or the day topic.

There is a break from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00a.m. I eat lunch at 12:35 p.m. I heat up my food in the microwave and I go to my desk to eat it. Often my food is chicken with vegetables, sometimes it’s meat with potatoes.

The last class start at 1:10 p.m. to 2:oo p.m. The students go to their house at 2:00 p.m. I have to watch the van’s exit. At 2:30 p.m. sometimes we have meetings or sometimes I work to checking test sor notebooks or I fill forms. I finish my day work at 3:30 p.m. , sometimes at 4:00p.m.

I go to the university at 4:15 p.m. Over there I read or fill more forms or I draw. I go to English class at 6:00 p.m. and it ends at 8:00 p.m.

I go to parking lot at 8:15 p.m. over there, I wear the elbow guards, knee guards and helmet, so I ride my motorcycle, I turn it on and I go to my house. Sometimes I pick up my girlfriend and take her home.

I arrive to my house around at 9:30 p.m. I eat dinner at 10:00 pm. Sometimes I prepare class or fill forms or check tests and check e-mails to midnight. So, I brush my teeth at 12:00 a.m., I go to sleep at 12:15 a.m. Sometimes I take off my clothes, sometimes I dot take off my clothes because I just fall in my bed.

The school’s address is carrera 27 # 7-79. Behind the building, at the next block is Cervalle (it’s a butcher shop). Across the 8th Street, at beside block, in the right side, there is a marketplace, it’s the Galería Alameda, it’s the neighborhood’s landmark. At the next door at the school, in the right side, there is a restaurant and in the next door (at left side) there is a small store. In front to school there are some factories.

Some block more to south are the Canchas Panamericanas, that place i son the 9th Street. Over there we can buy the traditional and delicious cholados. Near to school also is the Biblioteca Departamental, it’s just 3 blocks to west on the 5th Street.

My first occupation is like teacher. My second occupation ir like artist. I draw and paint portraits and other pictures. I have exposed in some place and I have ilustrated short stories in some academic magazines. I like to draw and paint aimals ful of colors and very expresive eyes in portraits, because the eyes are the key to expression. I am a figurative artista, but sometimes I like to be some no-figurative or surrealistic. I think art is the humankind mirror.
